In the Arabic language, aqidah originally meant anything that a person might bind his heart to. The word is used to describe those ideas and opinions in which a person places faith and takes as a religious way; taking residence in his heart and conscience, and being reflected in his actions. In an age of bewildering spiritual and intellectual impoverishment, aqidah has never been more important.

In the face of the present-day onslaught of varied ideologies and beliefs, it is essential for all Muslims, the youth in particular, to have a firm grasp on their beliefs. The basic understanding one absorbs by being brought up in a Muslim home is scarcely adequate. There is ample textual proof to the necessity of learning aqidah. In the Qur’an it states, “Know, therefore, that there is no god but Allah” (47:19), and the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, “Say, ‘I believe in Allah,’ and thereafter stand firm” (Muslim). True belief and its evidences inspire true faith and complete conviction, which is then reflected in one’s actions.

In this monthly class, Shaykh Jihad Hashim-Brown will guide attendees through his text Applied Aqidah, covering the following major themes and their implications:

  • Introductory Matters: Solid introduction to the science.
  • Divinity: Allah (swt) and His attributes.
  • Prophethood: Essential characteristics and functions.
  • Matters of Faith: Eschatological realities experienced after death.

Benefits:

  • Refine your understanding of the Creator, His messengers, and His communication with creation.
  • Gain insight into the reality and purpose of this world and into the eschatological matters of the Hereafter.
  • Attain a true appreciation for and deeper understanding of Islamic beliefs.
  • Pursue the higher purpose of learning aqidah, which is to attain, by the mercy and grace of Allah, success in the Hereafter, the good pleasure of the All-merciful, and entry into the gardens of eternal bliss.

Join us, in order that you may know, grow, and be firm in faith!
